NEW DOUGLAS, Ill. (AP) — A coroner in southwestern Illinois' Madison County says a man was killed when he was run over by a tractor on his brother's farm.

Authorities say 45-year-old Scott Wernle died Sunday at a hospital shortly after the accident on the farm in New Douglas.

Coroner Steve Nonn's office says Wernle was working on his tractor, trying to get it started with a screwdriver, when the farm machine suddenly lunged forward and ran over him.

The brother witnessed the accident but was uninjured.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
