Some Weld Co. farmers don't feel pinched by labor

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Some Weld County farmers say a reported drop in illegal immigration hasn't hurt their ability to harvest vegetables.

A study by the Pew Hispanic Center says the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. decreased by 8 percent since 2007 because of the recession, violence in Mexico, U.S. enforcement and other reasons.

Rains mean more hay on the horizon in Montana

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Montana's heavy moisture in late spring and early summer may not have been ideal for those who tire of mowing their lawns, but for hay producers who love seeing tall grass, it was a beautiful greeting to the growing season.

After the summer's first cutting, hay growers across the state are reporting high yields of both alfalfa and grass hay. Vigorous production rates, coupled with a high forecast in total harvested acreage, are leading some to predict a drop in hay prices.

Mo., Premium Standard reach deal on hog odor issue

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Premium Standard Farms has been given a two-year extension to install technology at its hog confinements to reduce odors after it failed to meet a July 31 deadline established by a Jackson County court six years ago.
