MANHATTAN - In 1985, Sharon Davis, serving as the Kansas Wheat Commission's nutrition educator, developed the "Speak for Wheat" spokesperson program, which allowed volunteers from throughout Kansas to share information about wheat production, wheat food preparation and nutrition to audiences of all age.

Grain foods coalition responds to change in dietary guidelines

The Wheat Foods Council, along with the American Bakers Association, American Institute of Baking, Grain Foods Foundation, Grains for Health Foundation, Independent Bakers Association, National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG), National Pasta Association, North American Millers' Association (NAMA) and the USA Rice Federation, disputed the recent recommendation from the Nutrient Adequacy Subcommittee of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee to replace two servings of grains with two servings of "starchy" vegetables. The recommendation came as a result of the DGAC review of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
